<p class="Paragraph">To prevent two words from being separated at the end of a line, press the <help:switch select="System" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:case select="MAC">(Command) key</help:case><help:default>(Ctrl) key</help:default></help:switch> when you type a space between the words. This is important, for example, between a title and the person's name.</p>
<p class="Paragraph">An example of a non-breaking dash would be in a company name such as A-Z. Obviously you would not want A- to appear at the end of a line and Z at the beginning of the next line. To solve this problem, press Shift+Ctrl+ minus sign. In other words, hold down the Shift and Ctrl keys and press the minus key.</p>
<p class="Head2">Hyphen, dash</p>
<p class="Paragraph">In order to enter longer dashes, you can find under <span class="T1">Tools - AutoCorrect</span><help:switch select="Program" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:case select="WRITER"><span class="T1">/AutoFormat</span></help:case></help:switch><span class="T1"> - Options</span> the <span class="T1">Replace dashes</span> option. This option replaces one or two minus signs under certain circumstances with a long dash(see <help:link Id="65826" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:productname>%PRODUCTNAME</help:productname> Help</help:link>).</p>

Here you can, among other things, have a shortcut that you have defined automatically replaced when input by an optional dash, even in another font.</p>
<p class="Head2">Definite separator</p>
<p class="Paragraph">To support automatic hyphenation by entering a separator inside a word yourself, use the <help:switch select="System" xmlns:help="http://openoffice.org/2000/help"><help:case select="MAC">command</help:case><help:default>Ctrl</help:default></help:switch>+ minus sign. The word is separated at the end of the line at this position even if automatic hyphenation for this paragraph is switched off.</p>
